A place for you to explore your thoughts, feelings & challenges
Welcome, and thank you for visiting Borders & Northumberland Counselling Support. My name is Elspeth Gilliland, a counsellor and clinical supervisor based in North Northumberland. I offer one-to-one counselling sessions for adults and young people aged 13 years and over.
I also provide clinical supervision online for trainee and qualified counsellors and therapists, pastoral support staff and those in the helping professions.
At times our emotions, thoughts and feelings become overwhelming, leaving us feeling uncertain or confused. Perhaps you’re finding day-to-day life more challenging than usual, with a sense that “things aren’t quite right”. You may be struggling with long-term issues due to past experiences. A recent unexpected or distressing event could have left you feeling unable to cope as well as you’d like. Or maybe you want to explore things that you’d prefer not to share with friends and family.
Whatever the reason you are seeking professional help, I offer you a safe and confidential space where I will listen as you explore your thoughts and feelings, in your own time and without fear of judgement.
Counselling is an opportunity for you to explore and make sense of your thoughts and feelings and how they impact your life. As your counsellor my role is not to fix you, give you advice or provide you with solutions. Instead, I’ll listen with empathy as you share your experiences and I’ll support you in finding your own answers to the challenges you face. This in turn will help you to deal with life’s ups and downs with more confidence.
Counselling may help you to find the root cause of your difficulties, develop healthier coping strategies, deepen your self-awareness, build your resilience or identify new perspectives. The counselling process can empower you, enabling you to change, grow and make positive choices for yourself and move towards a happier and more fulfilling life.
I understand that deciding to see a counsellor is a big step to take. Please take a good look round my site where I hope you will find enough information to decide whether you’d like to work with me, or contact me for an initial consultation.
I provide in-person counselling sessions at Bab’yama Wellness Hub, Berwick-upon-Tweed TD15 1LF.
I also offer remote (video or phone call) sessions to clients throughout the UK.
Or, if you enjoy the great outdoors I can provide ‘walk & talk’ sessions in Berwick, Kelso or Coldstream.

Taking the first step to seek help can feel scary, and so it’s really important that you find the right counsellor for you – someone you feel you can be at ease with and trust so that you are able to be open about the issues you would like to address.
With this in mind I invite you to contact me for an initial, informal and confidential chat to see whether you will be comfortable working with me.
Just complete the form or call me on 07379 094 466. Should this go to answerphone please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
